• When we passionately desire to be with God and want to learn about God, then we have reached the first step in developing a habit of praying daily.
• Prayer is the expression of the human heart in conversation with God. The more natural our prayers, the more real God becomes to us. Prayer is also a time when we can talk things over with God.
• Pray (using the A.C.T.S. of Prayer as described on the next page) silently for 5-7 minutes each day for the first 2-3 weeks, then 15 minutes a day for the following month and then 30 minutes a day for the following month. By doing this we will have developed a habit of praying daily.
• Find a specific place, time and day of the week for prayer.
• Keep the prayers simple. Pray for people and situations by name.
• Before we pray, it is important we become calm and achieve some level of stillness and peace.
• Keep a Spiritual Journal where you can write down your experiences with God.
• Do not pray like someone else, rather allow the Holy Spirit to guide and to help you with your time with God. As the Holy Spirit guides, you will begin to recognize the voice of God.
• Pray with a Prayer Partner or with Prayer Partners each week. It will be helpful to hold each other accountable with one’s daily time with God.
• Once the habit of daily prayer has been established, begin studying God’s Word as part of your daily ‘Quiet Time’ with God.
• Once you become comfortable in praying silently, seek out opportunities to pray out loud.
